Members ksargent
Just heard this acoustic duo today and had to rave a little. The Duo-Tones are: Paul Johnson (guitarist for the Belairs and for the Sufaris) and Gil Orr (guitarist for the Chantays). Two surf monsters from the 60's. As the Duo-Tones, they play strictly acoustic - no bass, no drums, no Fender Rhodes - just two guitars. And they BURN! Their CD is called "Surf Music- Unplugged" and contains things like "Pipeline," "Walk, Don't Run," "Apache," "Mr. Moto" - you get the idea. Hearing these guys rip through "Pipeline" is a revelation. If it is anything like the live performance I heard tonight on Prarie Home Companion, then it will be a treat indeed. I ordered it from Amazon tonight should have gotten the fast shipping! Members EvilHippy
My favorite surf guitarist has always been Dick Dale.He has an odd style of playing his guitars and uses, I think, a Martin 00015CE or EC (electric cutaway 15 series all mahogany, you get the point) and I know he mainly uses his Fender custom shop strat, the fat 50's pups and the reverse headstock. Members ksargent
Dick Dale is definitely the surf god. I know he strings his strat with barbed wire - i.e. 15's or heavier. I wonder how he strings his acoustics? Ken
