"Tonight I just need my guitar", by Jimmy Buffett

I don't know the words, but I heard a guy play it and ever since have meant to look it up and learn it.

She had a guitar and she taught him some chords. The sky was the limit.

-Tom Petty

I'm sure there's a bazillion others.

OK Stack, I saved my first post for you;

Guitar Town...........Steve Earle

Everybody told me you can't get far

On thirty-seven dollars and a jap guitar

Now I'm smokin' into Texas with the hammer down

And a rockin' little combo from the Guitar Town

Sweet! A tune from a fellow Texan!

I'm honored. :)

Welcome to the forums!

There's battlescars on all my guitars but i still come out here and play,

There's battlescars on my face and my arms but you still kiss me everyday...

Battlescars - Ozma

And if the world does turn

And if London burns I'll be standing on the beach with my guitar

I wanna be in a band when I get to heaven

Anyone can play guitar

And they won't be anything anymore

Anyone Can Play Guitar - Radiohead

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution

Take a bow for the new revolution

Smile and grin at the change all around

Pick up my guitar and play

Just like yesterday

Then I'll get on my knees and pray

We don't get fooled again

Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who

I've got an electric guitar

I play my stupid songs

I write these stupid words

And I love every one

Waiting there for me

Yes I do, I do

In the Garage - Weezer

Johnny was a school boy

"Love me do" I think it was

and from then it didn't take him long

got himself a guitar, used to play every night...

Shooting Star, Bad Company

Someone mentioned Bov Jovi:

"I walk these streets, a loaded six-string on my back.."

Does that count?

I can't beleive I didn't think of this one first....

Deep down Louisiana close to New Orleans

Way back up in the woods among the evergreens

There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood

Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode

Who never ever learned to read or write so well

But he could play the guitar just like a ringing a bell

He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack

Go sit beneath the tree by the railroad track

Oh, the engineerswould see him sitting in the shade

Strumming with the rhythm that the drivers made

People passing by they would stop and say

Oh my that little country boy could play

-Chuck Berry

Thanks! I'm on a roll; This is a really old one - 1800's traditional. I've heard it by Woody Guthrie, Arlo Guthrie, Dave Alvin, Doc Watson, Dylan, and even the White Stripes! It's an old story, you marry a 15 year old girl and a wild, handsome gypsy comes along and steals her away.

Gypsy Davy (or Blackjack Davy) Woody Guthrie

(4th verse)

There in the light of the camping fire

I saw her fair face beaming

Her heart in tune with the big guitar

And the voice of the gypsy singing

That song of the gypsy Dave

Social Distortion - Story of my life:

Good times come and good times go,

I only wish the good times would last a

Little longer.

I think about the good times we had

And why they had to end.

So I sit at the edge of my bed,

I strum my guitar and I sing an outlaw

love song.

Wonderin' bout what you're doin' now

And when you're comin' back.

The Who - I'm One:

I got a Gibson

Without a case

But I can't get that even tanned look on my face.

Ill fitting clothes

I blend in the crowd,

Fingers so clumsy

Voice too loud.

But I'm one.

Hey this is fun!

All the Stories We Could Tell - John B. Sebastian

Stared at that guitar in that museum in Tennessee

Nameplate on the glass brought back twenty melodies

Scars upon the face told of all the times he fell

Singin' all the stories he could tell

Chorus:

Ah, the stories he could tell

And I'll bet you it still rings like a bell

I wish that we could sit upon a bed in some motel

And listen to the stories it could tell

The first one that popped in my mind; "Play Guitar" by John Cougar Mellencamp

You may drive around in your town

In a brand new shiny car

Your face in the wind your haircut's in

And your friends think you're bizarre

You may find a cushy job and I hope that you go far

But if you really want to taste some cool success

You better learn to play guitar

Play guitar-play guitar

mrmoe :thu: Love to hear it!

and here's

Percy's Song - Bob Dylan

And I played my guitar

Through the night and through the day

Turn, turn, turn again

But the only tune

That my guitar would play was oh how cruel

The Wind and the rain

Mandolin Wind - Rod Stewart

Oh I never was good with romantic words

so the next few lines come really hard

Don't have much but what I've got is yours

except of course my steel guitar

Ha, 'cause I know you don't play

but I'll teach you one day

because I love ya

Would you like to learn to Dance..

Would you like to learn to sing?

Well I can teach you how

Heres an old tune thats good for a start

I can sing all the high parts if I really try

And you can play along on your guitar

And well sing together for a little while

Let the harmonies go ringin in your mind

And we sing so much better when we sing with a smile

All the notes come out so sweet and high.

All the notes come out so sweet and high.

Tennessee Flat Top - Johnny Cash

In a little cabaret in a South Texas border town,

Sat a boy and his guitar, and the people came from all around.

And all the girls from there to Austin,

Were slippin' away from home and puttin' jewelery in hock.

To take the trip, to go and listen,

To the little dark-haired boy who played the Tennessee flat top box.

Picking up the Pieces - Poco

If ya had the time to stay

Would ya sit yourself down and play

Country music Singin' songs that we both knew

Lord, I know that the day will come

When the both of us'll sit down and strum

On our guitars

And you'll see I really am a lot like you

"Teardrops On My Guitar" - Taylor Swift

Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see

That I want and I'm needing everything that we should be

I'll bet she's beautiful, that girl he talks about

And she's got everything that I have to live without

Drew talks to me, I laugh cause it's so damn funny

That I can't even see anyone when he's with me

He says he's so in love, he's finally got it right,

I wonder if he knows he's all I think about at night

[Chorus:]

He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar

The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star

He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do

Drew walks by me, can he tell that I can't breathe?

And there he goes, so perfectly,

The kind of flawless I wish I could be

She'd better hold him tight, give him all her love

Look in those beautiful eyes and know she's lucky cause

[Repeat Chorus]

So I drive home alone, as I turn out the light

I'll put his picture down and maybe

Get some sleep tonight

He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar

The only one who's got enough of me to break my heart

He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do

He's the time taken up, but there's never enough

And he's all that I need to fall into..

Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see.
