Members Raymond55 Posted October 9, 2008 Members Share Posted October 9, 2008 Most Seagulls have 1.8" nuts and they do make some "folk" sized guitars as well as parlors. You can find used ones for under $500. A lot of nylon string classical guitars have wider necks, but I'm not sure that's what you're looking for. Some Epiphone Masterbilts and Guild GADs have 1-3/4" nuts and you can probably find one of them used in your range. Larrivee also has a 1.75" nut, but I doubt you'll find one under $500. With your requirements, one suggestion is the Seagull Coastline Folk. The second suggestion is a used Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500R. New, they're around $600, but you can find them used for under $500. Keep any eye on eBay and the classified forums on Harmony Central, Acoustic Guitar Forum, and the Larrivee forum. Solid mahogany back and sides. 1.75 nut width. Neck as thin as my Blueridge guitar but with a wider neck. I use it solely for fingerstyle. For the price and the fact that you can still find an American Made acoustic used for $500 that sounds like a much more expensive guitar, that says a lot. An "F" style is very "open" for finger picking...lots of room.The older GF or D series also sound great finger picking. And I'm not too sure you need a 1-7/8 nut for good finger picking. The shape of the body, neck and spacing has a lot do with your ability to play in the style of your choice. When Walden first started, all their guitars had a nut width of 1 11/16. That has since changed. Walden started using 1.75 nut width around 2005/2006 for some of their guitars. My Walden is 1.75. Walden's own guitar site has the current specs for the Walden G2070.
