Martin guitar necks material... "select hardwood"?

Nobody uses rosewood for necks.

"Select hardwood" means mahogany or Spanish cedar. They used to use mahogany exclusively, but it's getting harder (and more expensive) to source, so they use whatever they can.

Now you can ask about "wings." :)

As gitnoob mentioned, there aren't any rosewood necks out there. Mahogany or related wood (i.e., nato) is typical but you'll occasionally find maple used on some guitars. I'm not aware of any Martins that use maple necks though. (Doesn't necessarily mean they aren't out there, just means I don't know about them. ;))

My 000-15 is supposed to have a "select hardwood" neck but it looks very much like mahogany to me.
:idk:

Although is a different Martin guitar this Martin in link below

has the genuine mahogany neck on sale now at MS

guessing its a mainly Martin thing with mahogany necks ?

I'm looking at the martin website right now. I would expect the necks to be either mahogany or rosewood, but on the specs I've read through so far, they say "select hardwood". Why aren't they more specific?

Example:

Martin uses Hog or Spanish Cedar ( which is not from the Cedar family) for necks. Since they use, what's in and since they can't foresee what gets what, they just say "select hardwood".

Soundise it's said not to make any difference.
