Hear the mighty engines roar, see the silver bird on high

She's away and westward bound, high above the clouds she'll fly

A friend just came back from China, lot's of sites (youtube) excluded. fear of porn he says. :) I'm told there is a great demand for western music there. Got me thinkin... maybe we should go? He played a couple places and was a hit.

Safe journey to ya Terry!

Got in early this morning and find I can't sleep, so I'm back!

Interesting experience. The folks I met were all super-friendly and very excited about me being a Texan (too much TV, perhaps ;)) and asked a lot of questions about six-shooters, pickup trucks, horses and oil-wells (couldn't tell 'em much about that last one!)...

Flying over and back was very cool, as they bought me round-trip tickets in 1st Class (it REALLY does make a difference! :thu: ) and at the initial leg one of the pilots noticed the "inspecters" asking me pointed questions about my harmonioca neck-rack (thanks again, DEpt. Of Homeland Paranoia), and offered to allow me to put my Guild in the Pilot's Closet, and contacted each of the other planes I'd be on and made arrangements for my guitar to travel that way all the way! How cool is that? :)

Chinese internet is kinda strange...I could connect to H-C and read posts but couldn't post replies...this was the case at a lot of sites, mostly commercial ones (Musician's Friend, Gibson, Taylor, etc.). Non-commercial sites were much easier. WiFi is sporadic where I was. Cell-phone reception was not too great, either, except late at night, when it was excellent.

The festival went very well and I was asked to give an interview over the radio...this was the most bizarre thing! The host, who didn't seem to speak English, would ask a question, an interpreter would translate, I'd answer, another interpreter (from the festival) would translate my response...this went on for about an hour. Turns out they edited it into two simulcasts, one in Cantonese, one in English...got recordings of both, and plan to have the Cantonese one translated just to see what got "improved"... ;)

Played about 45 minutes of my originals, with 4 covers thrown in. Most popular cover tune was "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain", and a gret many of the audience sang along. :)

An A&R guy from a label asked me for my card and said he'd like to discuss some business...we'll see how that goes...

Nice to be home.

My son is teaching in Nanchang. He can't access Facebook among other sites. The Chinese seem to love anything to do with Texas, especially Willie Nelson. He took a lot of pictures of South Fork and Dallas and the horses next door before he left and says those are very popular. Sounds like you were a great ambassador! Welcome home.

A lady involved w/ the Beijing Modern Sky Festival was in Dallas on business some months ago, heard me playing at a restaurant, bought some of my CDs and later her supervisor contacted me about appearing.

Welcome home, buddy!
Trying to find that out...I'd love to be able to link some/all of it to my website. Guess it'll depend mostly on the legal "fair use" issues. I imagine I'd have to get signed permission from the festival people, otherwise I might be burning a very important bridge! idea.gif

But first I want to have the Cantonese interview translated...just in case! icon_lol.gif
