Members doublecross
In the under $500 range pickings will be pretty slim, and the Ibanez line up about the best of the bunch, The Epiphone Casino Coupe is right at $500 and the Gretsch G2420 squeaks in under that. The Loar and Washburn have some offerings as does Peavey. But I think you'd be better off with an Ibanez. Might be a few off brands as well, but I wouldn't waste my time. Members Freeman Keller
As I recall you were last looking for some sort of jazz box for a grand. Lowered your sights a bit haven't you. That also lowers your options.

Members JTEES4
Playing near 50 years (owned everything)....but I recently was looking for a hollow body. I came across a used Schecter (Korean) C1-EA. It is a great guitar! Has a piezo which really comes in handy for some recording...but the guitar comes without piezo's also. I took out the Duncan designed pickups and put in real Duncans (couldn't resist, got a smoking deal)....and the guitar plays and sounds as good as anything out there. Mine is an older model, they have changed the switching around on the newer models...I prefer the older switching.

The Casino Coupe is a very cool guitar IMO (click to check out my in-depth review) and since the OP is a rock-oriented player, it might even be a better choice for him than a big-bodied Casino or a thicker full-hollowbody guitar since it's slightly less feedback prone than most full hollowbodies.
