Members Zimmeritt
Hello all, This is my first post here. I wanted to show a recent project I undertook when a friend asked me if I would paint a "Fool" SG for him. I realise that it's not quite the correct spec SG but that was the guitar my friend had to hand at the time and he wasn't too bothered about that aspect. He's very much a player and liked that guitars particular construction details, it has a great neck on it, so for him that level of authenticity wasn't an issue. Those little differences kind of added to the challenge of it to me as I had to adapt the design to fit the '74 SG spec. It doesn't bother me so much now it's done, even though it took a lot of time and effort but I guess it would have been nice to get it really perfect by putting it on to a '64 spec guitar - even with the vibrola fitting a 'la Clapton. I tried to get front and back faces relating to each other and flowing together as much as possible and there was no reference for this. Also I felt it was necessary to get it as accurate as possible to the original and to get the expression on the face of the Angel close as well. I notice a lot of replicas of this guitar don't really do that and I kept a few of the irregularities in the design the same, as the original is a bit rough in places. If I do another one I'd like it to be on the 1963-65 model SG. Now that I've got the whole design template worked out for front, back and sides it should be a little easier to do - just that aspect took a week to work out! Here are a few 'in progress' shots of the guitar and the reference photo I worked from initially. Anyway, I hope you like it! Members Emory
Looks great to me, but what do I know? Unfamiliar with original, but what you are doing is very tasty. Do wonder about effect of paint on back of the neck: how you handling that?
Members jtr654
I would have left the neck unpainted.
