Help Identify Gibson tail-piece.

I recently came across a bag full of second hand guitar bits and pieces for very cheap. The most interesting of which in there is this bigsby like tailpiece which is from a Gibson 1968, USA.

I know very little about this. If anyone could give me a heads up on what model it is, if there is anything missing and if it's of any value at all? Thank youu!

It doesn't look like anything I've ever seen on a Gibson . Probably hand made and stamped.

I believe its supposed to have a cover over it. The three main vibratos used on Gibson's were the Bigsby, The Harp type with the spring steel bender and that weird contraption that works bending the arm sideways.

 

The shape of this one suggests it may have come off one of one of the other Gibson owned guitars like an Epiphone. Epiphone many tails covers that were added to tail pieces with the E logo. Gibson bought out Epiphone in 1957 and started added their own parts to the builds. I didn't find a picture of this particular one but its construction suggests a cheaper branded model given the fact it would have a cover over those stamps.

 

Of course anyone can stamp a piece of metal with a set of dies too. I own a couple of sets of them myself and use them to stamp my own builds. Someone can easily take a cheap import part and stamp anything they want on it in attempts of making more money selling it. This is why its important to verify exactly what model it was for.

 

I suggest you post a Pic in Craig's Forum. He works for Gibson now and maybe he can get someone to research it for you.
