Members steve_man
honestly, the best thing to do is to take YOUR guitar... and YOUR amp to a shop that has an assortment of different distortion/overdrive pedals. Then, hook them up in a chain. Try them one at a time, go back and forth between them, and let you ears get used to their tone. It'll give you a much better feel for the sound through the actual gear you use. Or... if you can't pull that off, find a shop that has a good return policy, and buy one or two at a time. Take them home, try them out in real world situations, and find what works best for your rig. Some shops will even let you take them and demo them at home. Just depends on the shop. Members Chordite
Nowhere near enough playing styles through them to get an idea or feel. Just quick adolescent twiddle - next pedal
Members speakerjones
What a useless video. With all the time/money you spent on the cheezy graphics, you think you could have actually recorded the sounds better. They all ended up sounded pretty much the same anyway. And somebody's supposed to take away what, after playing three chords with a fuzz pedal set on maximum gain? If your goal was to keep the video short, you should have left out the promo shots from the guy's band, and ditched the dialog in the beginning. Also, maybe get a studio player that can play a few different styles, and dial in some different sounds.
Members papaschtroumpf
Search YouTube for "the pedal show". Those guys do a great job demonstrating that a particular pedal will sound very different depending on the amp you feed it into and the guitar you feed into it. I intellectually knew that, but their examples are pretty compelling.
Members Floyd Rosenbomb
I think your best bet is to simply find out what pedal your favorite bands use.
