greets all,

i have some pics of a gibson sg, but cant get any more pics so dont really have much to go on unfortunately

that said though, with the pics i have, are there any telltale signs on this gibson sg being a fake or not?

ps. the owner suggests it may be something from the sixties, what should i expect on the back of the headstock (just a serial number?)

thanks!!

well, that could be a great find

if you can you should try to get the serial no (back of the headstock)

the headstock looks suspiciously clean and the Gibson logo looks to be not placed right but I'm not an expert

could be an early Norlin era Gibson, mid 60s is also possible

but it appears to be one of those rare custom order Varitone fitted SGs

like the one below (but the one in your pics has the small guard)

but allegedly, there exist early to mid 60s standard SGs with small guard that had varitone fitted

let's wait what the Gibson experts have to say on this

there should be a Gibson expert here shortly

hi guys, thanks very much for the helpful replies

after speaking to the seller, he has said that the neck/headstock has been replaced and is not original gibson (ie. fake) ...

that's as much information i need to know to decide that i'm no longer interested in this 'frankenstein' item, especially as he is asking £325 ($500) for it!
