P90s with a 6L6 Amp - Hoo Ha!

I do love the sound of P90's, but I only have one guitar with them in it - my Casino. Still, it's a great guitar. Those Collings 290's sure look nice - did you just pick that up?

I've had a few Twins over the years, but they've always been more juice than I've really needed.

Don't have a tube amp right now, and to be honest, really don't want one, since the vast majority of my playing is recording or bedroom playing. but P-90s sound great in my original Roland BC60. And when I did have a tube amp, an old Seymour Duncan Convertible 100 with 6L6 was a true tonal joy.

I don't like dealing with the noise of P-90's although I agree that they sound very sweet.

I'm probably at heart a Telecaster guy. My favorite amps for cleans and basic stuff are old Magnatone amps.

For overdrive harder rock stuff I like a humbucker at the bridge fed into something like a Matchless Spitfire or Egnater Tweaker.

My favorite speakers are Jensen C12N......an old one with a new recone sounds great to me.

I don't have P-90's for the same reason, but I'm sure that will eventually change.

Fender single coils through these and a Jensen C12N give me plenty of sweetness.

If you ever run across any of the old GE 6L6GC's, grab 'em. They're the best NOS 6L6 tubes I've ever tried. They're pretty hard to find in NOS form these days though - at least at half-way reasonable prices - but they sound glorious in old Fender amps.

As you see I don't have a Fender tube amp ,mine's a Gemini 1. But those NOS tubes are a treat

While we're on the subject, I picked up a Peerless built Casino from a Japanese seller, arrived Monday, already had an IBJL.

What a difference. The IBJL is 6 months old so Qingdao, burst is beautiful, it oozes build quality, very thin finish, reminds of good Japanese copies.

The Korean Peerless? Acoustically louder, lot woodier sound, plugged in the stock P90s blow the IBJL US made Gibson's out the water..........huh?

Sure did. I still need to post the NGD, even though I've had if for 3 weeks now. Hands down the best guitar I've ever played. Holy cow those Collings guys know what they're doing! Plays like a dream, the Lollar P90s are super quiet too.

BTW, I sold three of my guitars to get the Collings. Turns out that I'd rather have one $2400 guitar than three $800 guitars :smiley-lol:

Yep, I use virtual amps quite often when recording as well. Although a month ago I bought 5 moving blankets and a package of binder clips to hang the blankets on the walls (with picture hangers) in my half bath. One more blanket on the floor and whala instant isolation room. Works great.

The convenience virtual amps can't be beat... but "ain't nothing like the real thing baby."
