Members Danhedonia
I've been attending Pyschfest (now, I guess, to be called "Levitation") for years, and it is a terrific event. More laid back vibe than other festivals, but most importantly just terrific musical lineup that is very guitar/psych oriented. This year's lineup is incredible: Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, Jesus and Mary Chain doing all of "Psychocandy," Primal Scream, the Oh Sees, the Black Angels (hosts/promoters) ... here's the URL. Planning now prevents sadness later. http://www.austinpsychfest.com
Members speakerjones
Wow, great lineup. I have some friends that have moved to Austin. I was thinking of going for SXSW, but this looks like fun too.
Members Danhedonia
SXSW is enormous; last year, I think the largest single day for AP was around 10-12k. Very relaxed, good sound, great vibe, great line up. Among others, I forgot to mention Spiritualized is playing as well.
Members JRicoC
That sounds like a better lineup than the ones announced for Bonnaroo and Coachella this week. At least it seems more focused ...

Members wankdeplank
Now that's some serious trance rock right there. Have to pull out my Spiritualized and Spaceman 3. Looks like too much fun and unfortunately, too much money for me right now.
Members Danhedonia
If there are cookie monster vocals I have to pass. Honestly not trying to be snarky - if you do not know the music of the artists above (no cookie monster vox, promise) you are really depriving yourself. Members Virgman
If there are no CM vocals then I am open to hearing it. I'll check them out.
Members Danhedonia
... and it is more focused. FWIW, I wrote the liner notes to the TAANG reissue of "Perfect Prescription" and am a huge fan of Jason and Pete's post-Spacemen stuff. Two years ago Spectrum (with 3/4 of original S3 lineup) were phenomenal at Psychfest. The event attracts special sets. But what really has amazed me over the past five years is the overall high quality of the entire lineup, top to bottom, and that it is NOT "something for everybody." There isn't something for everybody. There's an awful lot for those who like melodic / spacey / guitar-oriented music, and not much if you don't. That means attendees have a higher than average interest in the music, which permeates the entire event. I've seen that positivity manifested in better sets, better interpersonal behavior, and a real communal vibe (great vendor's market - lots of terrific music on sale). A lot of the performers circulate with the crowd when they're not playing, excited to see the bands. I worked Warped and Lollapalooza in the 90's and while there was some sort of unifying 'theme,' the vibe at those shows quickly turned typically sour. After a lifetime's worth of big concerts, this is really the only thing that gets me out of the house. Priced at $165 for 80 bands over three days I just can't say no.
