Members papaschtroumpf
I own two guitars, a Dot and a Nighthawk (both Epis). On the nighthawk I get a huge range out of the volume button, from whisper to loud, clean to distorted, rhythm to solo. On the Dot I feel like there is very little range out of my two volume controls (on per pickup). Not enough to really clean up my time by rolling it back, or not really enough to make my solo louder enough, I either use an amp preset or a pedal for that. Is that normal for 335 style guitar? Is this an Epi vs more expensive brands thing (remember my nighthawk is an Epi too).
Members papaschtroumpf
Sorry for the typos (e.g. time ->tone), typing this on a cell phone and it sometime "autocorrects" for me and I can't edit from the cell once posted. Members wankdeplank
Probably not the best sweep on some of those Dot pots. That's generally the trade-off with budget instruments - pots that cut out abruptly and early. Shouldn't be too difficult to install some better pots though - check the tutorials on youtube. Members papaschtroumpf
A lot of people seem to think that changing pots on semi hollows is the pits for the not-so mechanically inclined (the electronics and soldering are not the problem for me). That's why i'd like to know if the endeavor is likely to pay off before I attempt it.
Members gardo
Working on an ES-335 type guitar is really not so bad, A piece of string around the shaft will easily lift the pots into position.just watch the wires don't get twisted or tangled. Members badpenguin
Change the pots. yes, it's a pain in the but, and yes, you will discover new and exciting variations of cursing, (If kids are in the house) As was suggested, tie a sting to the pot, and pull gently. you will probably loose the locking washer, but who really needs it?
