Members mbengs1
I strung my guitar with a different set 4 months ago. i put on a 9-46 set. so i had to make some adjustments like truss rod tightening and the springs at the back of the guitar. Now i restrung the guitar with 9-42 again noticed the sustain was lesser than before the string change. what could have caused this? my guess is that the screws holes for tightening the springs at the back are looser now since i had to loosen it considerably. what do you think? Members Burgess
Those are some really light gage strings so I can't imagine we're dealing with that much sustain to begin with. I would suggest that the sustain you have now is probably closer to the norm. Then again, how much sustain do you really require? Not many phrases call for anything more than a whole note, maybe a dotted whole note.
Members 1001gear
It probably can't find the new guage.
Members Burgess
Or you can look at this another way... A dimed Marshall half stack doesn't really care what guitar or what strings you have on said guitar. It's pretty much gonna sustain most half way decent guitars. Members dick wiggins
you messed up the alignment it needs to get setup nm you meant the trem screws yeah just tighten them up. Put a block of wood or deck of cards behind it if you dont use the trem for more sustain. I thought before you meant intonation screws.
Members jtr654
Maybe the Gauge or metal content of the strings .

Members mbengs1
i learned my lesson from this. don't compromise your strings. switching string gauges can be a real hassle. i find it much easier to play 9-42's again.
Members jtr654
There is not that much difference between 9-46 & 9-42 just the 3 lower strings. Maybe learning to play should be a priority without a lot of Gain?
