Members papaschtroumpf
I liKe my nighthawk, but it feels neck heavy and slips down. I think the "right" way to fix it would be to relocate the strap stud, but I'm not ready to take tools to it. Would a less slippery strap help? Is there even such a thing? Both my straps are woven nylon or something along those lines (one is "velour" on the tOp side).
Members Steve2112
Sometimes a guitar is just neck heavy. You could try to relocate the button. Just a drill and bit and screwdriver. It depends where it is now. A different strap still makes it neck heavy.
Members DeepEnd
The strap buttons are where they would be on a Les Paul. I'm not sure what would be a better position other than maybe on the back of the neck like on an ES335 or Dot. Of course, he could do like an acoustic guitarist and tie one end to the headstock. Members speakerjones
Try a suede strap.
Members tvvoodoo
I make them. But... you may find that your guitar will then pull your shirt up in the back. try that velour strap... if you rub the fabric... from the middle towards the end you may feel more resistance one direction. Wear the strap so that it resists the pull downwards.
Members GAS Man
Try a suede strap. That's exactly what I was going to say. Perri's Leathers makes a nice quality 2.5" wide suede strap for a very reasonable price, i.e around $15. I bought several of them for my guitars and they are very good at stopping neck droop. Nylon straps are definitely the worst for adding to that problem. Cotton are not as bad. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/perris-2-1-2-suede-leather-guitar-strap My only caution with those straps is that since the suede is relatively soft and supple, your guitar is a bit more likely to slips out of the strap button holes, so to be safe, I recommend their use with some sort of locking clip. Strats are usually safer, due to the angle of their strap buttons, but on designs like the Nighthawk where there's a strap button on the upper bout, that angle of the strap button makes it probable that at some point the strap will slip off. I sometimes use Dunlop Ergo strap locks, but most of the time, I just try to make sure that I keep one hand on the guitar. $4 for a pair http://www.amazon.com/Jim-Dunlop-7007SI-Ergo-Strap/dp/B0006ZXFWO
Members WRGKMC
I have a cowhide leather strap I've had for 25 years and it doesn't slip. I prefer the cowhide over the suede because its stiffer and distributes the weight on my shoulder better. Suede tends to be softer and bunch up in the center, plus with the cowhide you can oil the leather like you would with boots to restore its looks. Here's a few plain type. Members Radar-Love
I have an old wide leather strap that works great as well as a medium-width ergonomic Yamaha air cell strap that does a great job for dealing with neck dive.on my Thunderbird bass. Unfortunately, Yamaha decided to (criminally) discontinue their air cell guitar/bass strap about 10 years ago, probably because it retailed for $45.
