Mustaine played a Bich 10 string without the extra 4 strings in his early Metallica days and during the first 2 Megadeth albums. You can see in the pic he left the tuners on.

The main 6 strings are not spaced any differently so there is no problem.

still seems pointless, why not just make a 12-string?

The the D-G-B-E strings. The point is that you can have the chime of a 12 string on the high end and still be crunchy and thudlike on the E and A strings. Some people even went as far as to make only double the unwound strings for better power chords. cool idea.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, it does seem like a pretty cool idea. Next step is to make a 10 or 12 string Floyd Rose.....:D

 

BTW, Slash has one of those too....damn Joe Perry rip-off! :rolleyes:

lots of companies offered similar stuff in the eighties.

 

Washburn made a similar deal with the A-series explorer looking guitars
