Members LifesonFan2112
The first four frets on my guitar are slightly indented and whenever a fret a note in that area, it gives a clanky sound. What is the average price for refretting a guitar? I read on some sites that they charge upwards to $500 which is about how much I paid for the guitar. I'm guessing if it cost that much then I should just get a new guitar.
Members jrfan
I recently paid 250.00 for a complete refret on my Les Paul. You can get a partial refret on those first four frets and be muchcheaper. The guitar may only need a fret dressing to fix the problem you have. You can usually get it done for around 5 bucks a fret, and some very good techs that work out of their homes may do it for as low as 3.

Members larryguitar
I ought to cut and paste this, I say it here so often: Fretwork is NOT that hard. You have to be careful, you have to be thorough, but it's not rocket science. It's not even...um....scooter engine science. Make fretboard flat. Install frets. Make top of frets flat. (As in, 'on one plane' flat.) Round (crown) frets. Play your ass off. My last refret took about two hours and I did it while watching TV.
