P90 vs Strat type single coil, whats the dif?

A P90 is going to be fatter than a strat or tele pickup. P90s coils are much wider and shorter creating a darker, fatter tone. P90s use double magnet bars which give it more push and grind. P90s will have more mids and lows.

Strat and tele style pups will be more jangly, a bit thinner and more open sounding due to having more high end. This is due to having less winds and thinner and taller coils.

 

Thats pretty much the basics of what makes them different.

My bud has had one of those for years...he only buys high end gibsons and gretch's...and he tells me of all the guitars even those more expensive then that he keeps coming back to that one...(I am assuming it is that one it looks exactly the same and has p90's).

I should probably add a P90 guitar, it sounds interesting.

 

I think you'll find the P-90 to be a real asset to your tone arsenal. I like singlecoils, I like humbuckers, but I LOVE P-90s.
