Members Phil051300
I know manufacturer has a lot to do with in, but in general, what are your impressions of the differences in tone between the P90 and the regular strat type pickup? Is the P90 "fatter"? Im really curious about the P90s. Thanks.
Members Norcal_GIT_r
A P90 is going to be fatter than a strat or tele pickup. P90s coils are much wider and shorter creating a darker, fatter tone. P90s use double magnet bars which give it more push and grind. P90s will have more mids and lows.Strat and tele style pups will be more jangly, a bit thinner and more open sounding due to having more high end. This is due to having less winds and thinner and taller coils. Thats pretty much the basics of what makes them different.

Members bluefoot
My recent addition of a P90 guitar. 1961 ES 330. My bud has had one of those for years...he only buys high end gibsons and gretch's...and he tells me of all the guitars even those more expensive then that he keeps coming back to that one...(I am assuming it is that one it looks exactly the same and has p90's). I think you'll find the P-90 to be a real asset to your tone arsenal. I like singlecoils, I like humbuckers, but I LOVE P-90s. Here's my best-of-both-worlds guitar- a P-90 neck with a singlecoil bridge:
