Hagstrom Suede vs Epi LP

What is the build/quality difference between an Epi LP Standard Plus and a Hagstrom Suede?

Going back to your original question...

I've had an Epi LP Standard Plus and have a Hagstrom Deluxe F. Both are very well built guitars.

The Epi's pickups and other electronics are terrible, at least in my opinion since others seem to find them perfectly useful. The electronics on the Deluxe F are fine. So much so that I see no need to change them.

The Deluxe F is an outstanding guitar right out of the box, although I also have to say that I had the hollow body 600 model and it was a huge turd.

I think your choice will come down to which neck you prefer.

I love my Hagstroms. I have the Deluxe and the Swede both are great guitars. My Deluxe has been my main player for a while now. Both came with really good electronics. I have found no reason to swap pickups. The neck on the Hagstom is something speacial in my book. I haven't played another guitar that has a neck as comfertable. As far as Epi goes I haven't really played a Epi that really stood out to me except the Sheriton (I've had two over the years).

There is a simple explanation for this. The OP misspelled Swede as Suede. KillerMike then misinterpreted it as "sued" instead of Suede.

The Swede has an extra toggle switch for some reason, supposed to be able to bypass the tone circuit, whatever that does (I think it's supposed to brighten the sound some). If this is the Swede reissue being made today I think they're made in China, like Epiphone. Plus, the Swede is a plain-top model having a cap of solid mahogany instead of mahogany veneered with flame maple on the Epi.

I guess the porn bomb was a misinterpretation too.

I am sure that was NOT a misinterpretation. Maybe the one in the George Dennis NAD was just taking the NGD boobies thing too far. Whatever it was I was too young to be looking at that. Thanks HCEG for corrupting me further! (Before joining this place I thought Teles were useless and didn't see the need for one, now I sorta want one.)

When I got my Super Swede set up, the tech. told me that the Hagstroms and Epis were made in the same factory. I have no idea if this is true, or if it would indicate similar build quality. I can say that my Super is solid as a rock (and nearly as heavy). As I've mentioned in other Hag threads, the only quality issue mine has is with the electronics.

I'm confused this is a Swedish porn thread?

frankly i dont know how this got to be this  all it needs is pictures but then again we arent HCAF. :D

thanks for the replies. I find the thin neck pretty attractive on the Hagstroms. Im especially interested in the GT which is something i wouldnt be able to get with an Epi as they dont have those with a 60s slim neck (to my knowledge)

There's a guy in a music store here who calls the Swede a Suede. I went in looking at amps and he said "let me grab a Suede so you can hear the amp". I was a bit nervous that he was going to get a piece of leather or something but nope, he came back with a Hagstrom.

Not exactly. There was a spammer named KillerMike and he posted pornographic images in a NAD thread about a George Dennis amp, but in this one he asked "Why would Hagstrom sue Epiphone". Hence my "misinterpretation" comment.

Haven't owned a Epi LP,had a G400 though. Swede neck & pups were much better IMO. Still the pots were not so great so I changed out all the electronics, great guitar IMO. Has Dream 180's in it now. Has a tone switch which does color or thin the tone out, cool option but probably going to make it a coil tap switch eventually.

Beauty!

what aspect of the pots made you change them?

I can't speak for Twisty, but there are a couple of problems with the pots on mine. First, the solder appears to have been applied with a garden sprinkler. Second, and more significantly, the pots just don't taper the way I'd like, particularly the volume pots. It's not a huge problem, and I never trim the tone pots anyway.
