1962 Gretsch Tennesean

For 1962, everything about the 6119 changed. The body was now a 1 7/8"-thick single cutaway Electrotone with fake f-holes, carrying two HiLoTrons instead of a single FilterTron, and the fretboard was now bound rosewood. Silver pickguard with Gretsch and Chet Atkins Tennessean in black replaced the earlier black one, and controls now included a volume for each pickup, master volume, tone switch, pickup selector switch and standby switch.

Body Width

16"

Body Depth

1 7/8"

Body Style

Single Cutaway Hollowbody

Colors

* Mahogany

Fretboard Wood

Rosewood

Fretboard Markers

Neo-Classic

Nut

Zero Fret/Bone

Tuners

Waverly

Neck Pickup

HiLoTron

Bridge Pickup

HiLoTron

Controls

* Master Volume

* Neck pickup volume

* Bridge pickup volume

* Pickup selector switch

* Tone Switch

* Standby Switch

Very few were made without fake binding around the fake "F" holes. Since Gretsch batch build in 50's it's possible this is one of only 50. Most 62's have the fake binding.

David Crosby, Tom Petty and Hilton Valentine all own(owned) Tennys without the fake F hole binding.

Woah - I have your long lost brother in Legacy form. Exact same feature set. Ash, honeyburst, birdseye maple with gun oil tint, locking tuners, cream/parchment plastic. The fretboard on mine is just 10", though.

I don't really have any good shots of the Legacy alone or the Mustang bass, but I have some nice pics of the Comanche!

Beautiful, wild-looking guitar. Sold it because I just didn't get into the tone. If looks were my #1 priority, I would have never sold it, but she just didn't get played.

It's not electric, but it's got a big pile of mojo.

1947 Silvertone archtop.

Purchsed new from Sears in 1947 for $65.00

Scale length: 25"

Width at lower bout: 16"

Neck: tree trunk, poplar, I believe

Top wood: spruce

Body: maple laminate

Rescued from mom's attic a couple of years ago in pieces in a box. Painfully reassembled into a working guitar again.

All original except tuners and bridge.
