Members jrnoel
I am a beginner and have narrowed down my choices to these two guitars. I can get the GRG121 w/amp and bag for $220 or the RG321 w/same stuff for $315. I am just starting to play. I like rock and metal but would like to learn everything. My budget was $250, but didnt know if it was worth the extra $100 to get the RG321. Thoughts on both guitars and differences would be appreciated. I already own a zoom g1 pedal and cables
Members Floortom
I bought a 321 as a hardtail rock "beater" last year and was surprised at the quality. For a $300 guitar, you get a solid instrument. Havent played a 121 so I cant comment.
Members Dewysoss
321s are pretty decent guitars. I'd stay away from any of the Gxxxxx stuff.
Members GRANKOR
The GIOs have a fatter neck than the normal RGs and the pickups in the GIOs are pretty poor. Also they tend to have much heavier bodies
Members frankenstone
I don't think this is a close call. You'll be much happier in the long run with the 321.
Members sylvesterlowery
Go for the 321.I have one and it's a rock solid guitar, nice neck, and the stock pickups are pretty good IMO.
Members Brewski
RG is one of the best made models on the market.
Members cratz2
I've never been impressed with any of the GIO series strat-shaped guitars though the GAX70s and GAX75s have a a bit of a following, myself included. But yeah... as everyone else has said, the 321 is several steps up from the 121. Think of it like this. The 121 is basically the cheapest guitar Ibanez knows how to build. The 321 is basically a professional level instrument with almost every 'unneeded' feature taken away. I'm generally not impressed with any stock Ibanez-branded pickup, but as for the guitar itself, my 321 was pretty much flawless.
Members calclown
I have a RG321 too.Great guitar. nice sound. Haven't played the GRG series, so I don't know how it compares. Is $320 the new price? I bought mine for $120 used. Try looking around some.
Members ibnzplayer8
The 321 has a great sound to it. The mahogany body looks great too.
Members waltchwarzkopf
I'm also in a similar situation. I can buy a GRG121 new (online) for $213 or a RG321 used (playing it first) for $200. Which one should I get? I also agree that the RG321 will be a better guitar on the long run, and it's in mint condition and comes with a bag and spare strings. I made a post abut it: http://www.harmonycentral.com/forum/forum/guitar/acapella-41/31944920-which-one-to-buy-rg321mh-used-vs-grg121dx-new-vs-rg421ex-new
Members Ancient Mariner
This thread is 7 years old, but the advice then was to buy the 321 (for $315) instead of the 121 (for $220) because it was a much better guitar. That advice still stands.
Members RaVenCAD
I picked up a wonderful used 25th anniversary S for $250. You can do much better than either of these for less money if you look.
