Members bdegrande
The scam is to report the serial number as stolen. The usual response is to give the first few letters and numbers, which are enough to tell year and model information, but not the full serial number. Members brandass
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ That would suck. Wish that the parasites who pull that {censored} would grow a pair and put their energy into something that benefits humanity for a change. Members Bro Blue
If they did pull the "it was stolen" it's not like you have electronic evidence of prior contact.
Members Belva
The only way I'd give him the full # is if I either had the original sales reciept (with your name on it) or kept record of the email showing that you gave someone the #. Then your butt is covered well enough to keep the cops from locking you up. Both would be better.
Members harold heckuba
I wouldnt give it out. Why would he need it? Another note- I sold about 200 guitars on ebay over a span of 2 years. I used to get this question all the time. Never once did the person asking this buy a guitar. There is a certain segment of "time-wasters" on ebay who agonize over every move they make and then cant even pull the trigger on a purchase. Members Mazi Bee
Yeah, I never give it out, and I explain the "report it stolen" scam if they give me a hard time about it. I will give out the first few numbers for year verification, but they don't really have any right to know the whole number until they buy it. Members Kuroyume
If you purchased it from a legit store (like there are many nonlegit stores) and have the receipt (which I ALWAYS keep, duh) it usually (but no always) has the serial number on the receipt. Any inference to theft is then mitigated by evidence (the receipt). The receipt itself, if it doesn't have the serial number, is probably enough though. Your response should be leveled on that information being available so that none of the so-called 'Hey, that was stolen from me' can be perpetrated. As others mentioned, give them a partial and see if that is satisfactory (for Fender, the first three or four alphanumerics are usually enough to completely identify the make and year/location of manufacturing). If that is not enough then I'd question their motives.
Members docjeffrey
If you think that police have the time or the interest in getting involved in stuff like this, think again. They are too busy posing as 13 year old girls in chat rooms trying to reel in internet predators
Members xgamer791
It will be fine, send him the guitar so he can test it out before he buys it and send him your social security carnd and a long list of your fears so he can get to know you better. Sucks not to know who your buying from...
Members Carbohydrates
I never post it in an ad and I censor it out of photos, but I'll happily give up the serial to an interested buyer privately.
Members BG76
I give it out. Plus, if people were not willing to give out serial numbers I wouldn't be able to get good serial numbers when I build my copies.:poke:

Members AluminumFalcon
I've asked for a serial number before, but it was on a late 90's Ibby so it might be a different story. I just wanted to know when it was made, and what factory. If you have proper evidence (like the original receipt) you shouldn't have a problem if you release the number.
