  • Does This Look Like an Ash Body?

I bought a guitar and the seller threw in this strat body to sweeten the deal. He claimed its ash but it looks to me like alder. If the pics are too grainy I can take a couple more.

So what do you guys think? Ash or alder?

maple would be cool since I dont have any guitars made out of maple. What color would maple be in the neck pocket?

I can't tell with all the reflections and with the camera so close to the body. Can you take a pic of the whole body?

ash is possible but you will probably never know for sure. I've seen all kinds of variety from ash.

The grain pattern on the comfort cut is consistent with that of ash, but it is hard to tell for certain under all that poly.
*actually after blowing the pics up and having a good look, yep thats ash, just not a particularly well figured piece.

Imma say yeah, I think that's quite likely ash, so-so ash. Not bad ash, but not good ash either...

Here is a pic of the neck pocket if it helps.

Yeah, I go back and forth. I have an ash strat to compare it with and the grains arent as well defined as the ash strat.

Anyways, Im plannin on buying a cheep right handed strat and swapping all the parts onto this body with a voodoo pickguard as a homage to Jimi. I think it will look cool with the upside down neck and bridge.

Also, I plan on using the highway one cuz of the fat headstock. I think it will look cool

Looks like a MIA body. It has the micro tilt.

Is there any reason you think he could be mistaken or misleading?
