Yeah, you can tell that one is fake. If you look at the picture of the headstock that shows a bit of the neck, you'll see the frets aren't sanded down on the edge of the neck. Gibson always sands their's down right at the edge of the neck though.

The one curious thing about it is that "Les Paul" on the headstock is surprisingly well done for a fake.

Odds are fake, buy at your own risk.

The frets dont have the binding over the edges -
the serial number is stamped through the lacquer (gibsons are stamped brfore lacquering),
The pickguard is flared at the end,
Nut is too fat and doesnt look like bone,
headstock doesnt tilt back at the right angle,
Gibson logo is not at the right angle -
The Les Paul Fonts are rwong -
The headstock appears top be narrow if it isnt a photo problem.
Gibson isnt usingt those cheap TOM bridges any more and they dont have reversed saddels on the low strings,
The truss cover is single layered and the fonts are wrong

Dude, everything on ioffer is a fake...

I bought this waterslide on iOffer, which could be used to make-a-fake , but I applied it to a real Fender after it was refinished.

                  Heres another one.
You can see they are painting the headstocks now so you cant see the how the necks are graphted on.
This one hasnt even got a toggel switch plate. You can see how they punch through the lacquer for the serial numbers too.

I didnt say Mafia, I said organized crime. Crime is organized any time it isnt random, and since the entire moraless country is doing it you can kind of call that an organized attempt to fleece the rest of the world.

Hard to say. There have been rumors that some of these fake Gibsons are being made at Epiphone facilities in China. I haven't seen any proof of that, but photos of the wiring cavities of some of these fakes do look very similar to Epiphones. Reviews of these 'Chibsons' run the gamut from "pretty good for $300" to "about what I expected for $300".

The important difference between them is that the Epiphone is a legally licensed copy of the Gibson Les Paul. The other is counterfeit made and sold under fradulent means.

Given that Gibson OWNS the Epi factories in China, it's unlikely they come from there. The plant manager is from Tennessee.

The Lp in the OP isn't even a good/convincing fake. Also, LP traditional guitars do not come with a custom shop certificate of authenticity, as they are not made in the custom shop. My experience with the few fakes I have encountered was that they are pretty ****************ty guitars (of course, I've only played 2), and you can do a lot better for the money from a company making LP style guitars under their own name (agile, etc).

You have to remember that the people that are making these are not trying to earn business based on the merits of their product, but by deception and illegal means to begin with. Why on earth would you think that they would care about anything other than looking similar to the product they are copying and give a half of crap about the quality. I could see things like bowed necks, green wood, really crappy electronics and parts and maybe even toxic chemicals in the paint. For that kind of money you aren't getting a product that is governed by any kind of regulating agency and you don't know what you are getting. My wife keeps up with a lot of the stuff made over there and you'd be shocked at the stuff that comes out that is supposed to be legitimate; I can't even fathom what the blackmarket would stoop to in order to save a few bucks.

By a frickin' Agile, it's a better guitar and backed by a company that cares about customer service.

I'm fairly certain I ran across this ****************er peddling this and other suspiciously low-priced "Gibsons" and "Fenders" on ebay last year, under the same username. The prices for "brand new" Les Pauls and Strats with all the case candy rang some warning serious bells for me.
