Members Cliff Fiscal
I've used them on bass, but wondering how they work on guitar?
Members cratz2
It's been a while... a LONG while... but didn't GHS Boomers used to be stainless steel? Back in about 1985-1990 or so? If I ever order from juststrings.com again, I'll get 4 or 5 sets of D'Angelico stainless flats.
Members StevePage
I don't use them any more but I did for a little while. They had a nice response and lasted quite a while longer than nickel strings. A little bit brighter too but not too much. I think the only down side is that if you're quite a hard player you might end up chewing your frets up unless they're stainless steel. For me it wasn't a problem but I can see why it would be. I don't use them but I can see that this would be likely. I have a strat with SS frets and it goes through standard strings a lot faster than my other guitars. I can always tell it's time to chance because there are noticeable bumps at each fret. Granted I believe I am a hard player even though I try not to be...so much so I expect that I'll wear out the SS frets...it will just take 10-20 years to do so
Members RockNote
Yes, I use Protone SS strings. Have done so since the late 1980s.
Members Cliff Fiscal
Are they really that much brighter, or just a different tone? That's what I noticed on bass, a different tone....more of a mid punch.
Members Fendson
Years ago I used the Dean Markley Blue Steel strings for about a year. I thought that they were good. I then went to GHS nickel rockers for that more vintage sound. I now use elixirs so as to save money and I am finding that I genuinely like the sound of them. Anyway, I would give the steel strings a try if I were you. You can sometimes get musically inspired by simply changing strings. Heck, I might join you! Members Cliff Fiscal
I might try them.... My big thing is even with cleaning, my strings get corroded and nasty pretty quickly.......which is why I went with them on bass.
Members BigTimeFun
I bought a few packs to try out on different guitars a while ago. Didn't much care for the feel or sound. There's a reason there are so many choices in strings out there though, give 'em a wag.
Members garthman
I've tried them but I prefer standard nickel-plated steel.
Members caveman
Tried them but didn't like them and went back to nickle.
Members Patuney
The coated strings have kind of replaced them for me. They always seemed really bright and stiff playing.
