I use one of these on the low setting for boosting solos. Gives a big mid boost that sounds like a half-cocked wah. I love it.

I don't need a "volume boost", I'm just looking for a pedal with huge volume increase to push the front end of the amp as hard as possible

i go back and forth between an ibanez ts9 and a bad monkey for this. I like the bad monkey better.

ok, but does the bad monkey have a big volume increase? How many db?

The Way Huge Green Rhino has enough output to fry your amp. It also can do overdrive, and it has some tone-shaping knobs.

I saw the band The Parlor Mob once, and both their guitarists used MXR Micro Amps to do what you're asking.

*edit - I originally posted the Swollen Pickle, which is a fuzz pedal. My mistake!

I got a Bad Monkey free with a guitar magazine subscription last year. I've been really impressed with it, especially considering how cheap they are, and I'm a bit of a gearsnob.

Oh okay! My JCM900 sounded amazing with a TS808 in front.

If that's the question, the Angry Troll (as someone mentioned earlier) is the likely answer. I don't recall the exact number, but it's a LOT.

Any of the pedals suggested should provide more than enough of a boost for a JCM900. Too much and you might as well just use a fuzz pedal.

If all you want is a "huge" volume boost, try a Cusack More Louder. Insane amounts of gain.

Never played much with a 900. Had an 800 for a while back in the day. I ended up preferring an original GuvNor into the 800 with 'just enough' dirt on the 800, then I'd kick the GuvNor for real dirt. I definitely preferred that to anything I could get out of the 800 by itself.

I basically dialed the amp and pedal so it sounded nice and crunchy with my guitar volume on about 7, then just rolled the volume up when I needed a boost.

Today, my main amp is basically a tweaked 18W Marshall and I like the Crunchbox or the Lovepedal Superlead in front of it, but I'm not going for super gainy tones... just a little boost and some thickening.

Make yourself a BYOC FET Preamp. Does magic stuff, has tone controls so you can scoop the mids, boost the top or whatever. Has a theoretical 26 db boost, which on the front end can really kick an amp running clean into OD territory. Love mine working out front of my twin reverb.

Lots of choices out there. I use a Pigtronix Class A boost and a home-made JFET booster.
