If a person dislikes legato but loves squealies, they are likely a Zakk Wylde fanboy or Zakk Wylde himself. Too much of any one technique can be annoying. For example, Wyldes overuse of squealies.

Legato technique has been used well by many legendary guitar players. As long as it's done tastefully, it works.

I wish players would put more emphasis on composition and song writing. Technique won't save lousy songs IMO.

Utter nonsense.

The ability to "slur" a note is fundamental to what makes a guitar a fabulous instrument.

Hammer ons, pull offs, sliding to a note or chord, and bends are all slurs.

Think about instruments that you can and cannot slur the notes. Well you can on a harmonica if you're good and can drop your jaw on the draws. But it's not as easy on all instruments. The nuances you can physically impart to notes on a guitar make it a particularly expressive instrument in the field of lead instruments. Violin players probably have us beat.

it doesnt mean hammer on/pull off. legato is used for playing chords etc. its a smooth transition between notes or chords not necessarily hammer on/pull offs (but thats one way to do it)

listen to the lemon song for legato chord work. Page is the master-very hard duplicate his chord work. sounds slippery or wet
