Members The EAKLE
Does it refer to a hollowbody electric or an acoustic with electronics installed?
Members billybilly
As far as I know it just means electric acoustic.
Members honeyiscool
I used to hear that term in Korea. I think it's used to refer to semi and hollow bodies.

Members kayd_mon
I had a coffee table book of guitars when I was younger, and it called semi-hollow guitars semi-acoustic.
Members blue-eye boy
There isn't much acoustic in most semi-acoustics!
Members Yer Blues
What's the difference between semi-acoustic and semi-electric?
Members kayd_mon
Semi-electrics plug into amps, but their output is so low it's useless, just like a semi-acoustic guitar's acoustic output.
Members HarpBoy
When I was a kid back in the 60s-70s, semi-hollows and hollow-bodies were generally referred to this way. The theory was that you could also play them acoustically, but everyone knew it never worked in the real world.

This is my understanding of it. "Electro-acoustic" would be a 'proper' acoustic guitar with a pickup installed, "semi-acoustic" would refer to a ES335, ES5 or similar guitar. I am English though, I'm sure the Americans have a different word for it
