  • Texas Special + Pearly Gate

    Hello there,

I'm really digging the sound of my (recentyl acquired) 2003 American Fat Strat Texas Special. It's got these pickups :

    - 2 Texas SpecialTM Single-Coil Strat Pickups (Neck & Mid),

    - 1 Custom Wound Seymour Duncan

"The blues is the recognition of a tragedy, and the optimism to deal with it" (Fruteland Jackson)

"You may think you're playing your instrument, but what you're really playing is the audience" (anonymous)

As far as I know, there is but one Texas Special. That said, I bought a set in '98 and in '05, and they sound different. I always chalked that fact up to them being in different Strats with different woods/resonant qualities.
Guitars: 3 Fender Strats, Fender Jazzmaster, Squier Bullet, 2 Gibson Les Pauls, Gibson ES-339, Gibson Les Paul Jr. Special, Epiphone Les Paul, Epiphone Dot, Epiphone SG, PRS SE Custom 24, Ibanez AS73, Hamer Duotone, Larrivee D-03R, Takamine EG5013S, 1951 Epiphone Devon, Ibanez SR305 (bass)Pedal Chain: BBE Green Screamer -> MXR Distortion III -> Boss CE-5 -> EH Stereo Pulsar -> Boss DD-20 -> BBE Boosta GrandeAmps: Vox AC4, AC15, AC30, Pathfinder 10, DA5SoundCloud

Yeah. Is the Lone Star MIM now? It's got the same set. So have they been MIA and MIM? ('Cause mine was US made)

The early ones were definitely MIA. I always thought that the Lonestar and Roadhouse Strats in the 90s (the MIA Texas Special and Pearly Gates Strats) were far superior to the American Standards.

A texas special is a texas special, regardless of what guitar fender produces.  The so called Mexican equivalent is the Tex Mex.  It's quite different though.
