I already own a few Gibsons and PRS, so I think I can be forgiven. Since Hamer went under, the used market prices have gone up a bit, and there doesn't seem to be many Studio Customs available in any color I'd like. Eventually I'll find THE Hamer and buy it. It would kind of be neat to see Jol Dantzig buy the name back from FMIC and start production again in his own facility. He seems happy doing the high end custom luthier thing though. Even if happened, would you buy a new one, when they are so undervalued on the used market? Most of us found what we wanted used, and that was the nail in the coffin. Frankly, they weren't very original, the Les Paul Jr shape dating back to the 1950s. Same with the Explorer, Stratocaster, and everything they cloned, but made better than the originals. Great wood, long and fat neck tenons, good hardware. In many ways better than Gibson Custom Shop and as good as PRS. Wilcutt Guitars still has a few 2009 NOS models and the price hasn't budged. Members Special J Posted May 5, 2013 Members Share Posted May 5, 2013 They actually were the first company to offer quite a few options on their guitars - Floyds, graphic finishes, black hardware, they were one of the first custom shops too. So they didn't have real original body shapes. Not many do. I've owned quite a few over the years. Great guitars, every one. I can't wait to try out a new Guild. It would also be nice if Fender started making just a few models all of them Masterbuilt quality and if Gibson made less models and all were Historic quality, Gretsch returned to America and did the same, etc... Sadly, these brands have mostly been destroyed by cost cutting and shipping production oversees. If you want a great Hamer guitar the only options I can suggest are the used market or by having Jol Dantzig's shop build you a guitar, as he is still in business.
