  • Why do idiots and snobs spell it "Squire?"

It's "Squier." Not the knight escort: Squire.

Squier is a brand name and proper noun. Good God, it's on the damn headstock, and owners still misspell it.

People don't spell Coke or Pepsi incorrectly. Why Squier?

I don't take as much offense as you do but it bugs me a little as well.

Most people are pretty bad with spelling and can't tell or don't notice the difference. It has nothing to do with snobbery and probably only somewhat to do with idiocy. Potentially more to do with illiteracy.

Buckstudent, how many posts will I have to go back in your post history before I find misspellings, and or improper use of grammar?
Because I'm willing to bet actual money it won't be more than a handful.

Actually, assgoblin, you can go back and look through all of my posts and try to find "misspellings" and "improper use of grammar." I don't give two dog ****************s.

God, I miss the ignore list.

All other posters, I'm not "butthurt" about it. It's not my company; I own one Squier. I choose to spell it correctly and respect the brand. Usually when someone spells it "Squire," I find that their post reflects their snobbery or idiocy. Usually; not always.

As for "autocorrect," there's also something called "proof reading." My iPhone annoys me, but I make sure that I spell things the way I want when it's necessary. I had no idea you guys would all get "butthurt" over my post. Perhaps it applies to some of you? Usually, the regulars are a little more loose than this.

Cellphone auto correct. The little red squiggly line underneath it if typed on a regular computer. Ignorance. I'd imagine that many of the offending spellers are selling their first guitar that they never ended up using on craigslist, and one of the above explanations were perfectly good reasons for them to spell it "right" in their own minds.

Its possible those people are posting from their phone with autocorrect and it changes "squier" to "squire" without them noticing.

@Dave: haha - I thought the same thing. Long live Squire!

I honestly didn't know which it was until I clicked on the thread.  Never paid attention.  I guess that makes me either an idiot or a snob?  You can choose which...

I was sorely tempted to make a bad pun about slurping down a Pepis then I decided not to . . .

The better question for me is Why did Fender choose to misspell squire?

Another one is "Elixer".  It's "Elixir", more common to see it spelled incorrectly with the "e" though, oh well.

        I blame it on auto-correct.

Was Billly Squier the type of guitarist you only listened to as a beginner, until you could afford to listen to a real one?

I liked his music, Emotions in Motion was a great album.  He was primarily the singer too, not the guitarist.

Probably a natural reaction to get as far away from the Rock Me Tonite vid as possible.

What was that pink tele/LP thing he had at the end of that vid?

most people assume its not a person's name and therefore use the proper spelling.   pretty simple really.

Don't really understand why you're upset, Bucksstudent. You asked why no one misspells common household names like Coke and Pepsi, which have their own unique spellings, yet they misspell a lesser-known company's name that happens to use a different spelling than the common word. I don't think anyone was butthurt over your post, though some people did respond with sarcasm, etc. No big deal. Unless you're upset that no one seemed to share your annoyance for other people's ignorance or unwillingness to proofread that which they write.

The Coke/Pepsi thing was an example.

In guitar circles, Squier is a well known name, though.
