Members J Backlund Posted February 15, 2013 Author Members Share Posted February 15, 2013 Fresh images of the build came in yesterday from the Netherlands. This is the progress on my Backlund Marz 6 prototype. The builder is making one for himself, but I don't know which guitar will end up being #1 or #2. Anyway, here's the body in the jig for drilling the input jack. After a few more details on the body are finished, the work will shift to the neck (which is already underway)..... Laying out the fret positions on the neck template.. The finished neck/headstock template... The neck on this particular guitar will be three-piece, here it is being glued up... The nearly finished Marz 6 body with the neck template placed in the neck socket, just to get an idea of what the whole thing will look like if you squint a bit... I think that two teardrop 'pickguards' will be sent with it, one a red tortoise, and the other a stainless steel, engine-turned affair, so I will have two options with those components. Which one I end up using will depend on the paint colors I choose for it. I may have to create a few more illustrations of the guitar to see what it might look like in something like Fender's Burgundy Mist or perhaps Sage Green metallic. It probably won't be too long now before this guitar is heading to the U.S. for painting and final assembly. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Both engine-turned ss covers positioned on the back of the Marz 6 body... 2 mm stainless steel faceplate for the Marz 6 with the bridge positioned.... SS faceplate set in position on Marz body, needs some trimming to fit into the inletted body properly... After fitting the faceplate into the body, the aluminum center trim piece is trial fitted into the center section... A wider view of the body with the metalwork set in place. The aluminum center strip trim will be three pieces, and end at the neck heel. The finished teardrop ss faceplate will be entirely engine-turned... The cable jackplate for the Marz 6, with the finished engine-turned faceplate for the Backlund model 700 'Katalina' lying behind it.... Members J Backlund Posted May 16, 2013 Author Members Share Posted May 16, 2013 I'm not sure yet, but I think this 700 might be painted a tangerine metalflake, with a mint-green secondary making up the two-tone.
