  • Hey Eli, I posted some pictures of the strat rebuild a few pages back. Just a heads up seeing as you asked for them.

    • Ask and ye shall receive. Upgrades included a Challaham trem block and saddles, new RS guitarworks modern kit, custom wound set of chevalier pickups, and an aged pick guard, knobs, and pickup covers.

      Nice!

Is that one of those tiny squier necks or the normal sized? Hows it sound?

I can't wait to crank pos. 4 on my strat through the plexi module next week

      • I'd say it's normal sized, not as thick as my Telecaster neck but not paper thin like an Ibanez.

As for sound, I still have to do some tweaking of the pickup height but so far I'm loving it. Both the neck and middle pickups nail that glassy strat tone and the bridge pickup is extremely usable, the bridge plate and winding really brings it almost into a tele bridge territory.

I meant the width at the nut, the nut on my squier strat is TINY compared to my others.

idk how glassy my strat is but I love its sound, since the first time I played it I've thought it sounds like how a strat should.

            • Ah, I can't remember the nut width for sure but I think it's 42mm. I know it's less than my Les Pauls, but nothing overly tiny. I've played a few early 70's strats that are like tooth picks compared to it.

I'd have never guessed that Roy, given your love of Rics.

                        • That was the weirdest part about the Ric I played. The tiny nut.

That would be one of it's strong points for me, using it on the ****************ter.

                              • I do the back of the nails bit all the time on fast strumming. It feels more natural to me than using a pick. Palm muting is much easier when nail-strumming.

I think that Go Your Own Way period of Fleetwood Mac was when John McVie was drinking heavily. Good excuse, at least.

He always drank a lot - thats why he fell out with Mayall, who is teetotal. In fact they all drank a bit.
Had a nice beer or two with him (and PG, MF and JS) mid-gig in the first weeks of the original band....before they all got new LPs. With prescience I got them to sign a beer mat. When they got famous, I lost it.
