I have both, don't have a preference but technically, using a vintage trem has more contact with the wood, even considering using the two outermost screws, as you should if set-up properly.

Now, can we do away with those stupid screw in trem arms.  Pop-ins are superior in every way.

I have a 98 AS strat with the new bridge. No matter what I did I could not stop the bridge from moving in the opposite direction while bending a string. So I had to give up the bar, and locked the bridge tightly to the body. Now it's flush 100%. I don't notice a difference in sustain, but I can bend a string.
