  • Shipping guitar overseas?

    Hey guys,

I recently sold a pretty expensive guitar on ebay. I did not specify no international bidders so of course the winner is located in the UK. Now, i've shipped guitars overseas before with no issues via USPS and was planning on doing this again. However, the buyer asks that i put the value as $50. Which is about $1600 off.

Has anyone done this before? Seems like a very very gray area.

    Thanks

Hmmmm... That might be because he would have to pay more for customs when he gets it. Don't quote me on that, though. The biggest value I've shipped overseas was about $300 worth of collectible tabletop game pieces shipped to France. I don't remember fudging the value, but I probably would have if they asked.

That's exactly why, but wouldn't you expect to pay the fees before bidding on a guitar?

It's basically his risk, not yours.  If his customs looks into it and thinks the amount is BS then they will simple find the value themselves and charge him accordingly.

yeah I guess that's about the only way it could go sour for you.  If the buyer acts like a child and doesn't want to pay if customs makes charges him the proper amount.
