Hey everyone. Haven't been on here in a while. Hope everyone is well. I recently picked up a Gibson Les Paul 50's tribute but was too busy to post a proper NGD here w/ photos. So today I took some pics and wanted to share. This is a goldtop in what gibson calls a vintage gloss with a dark back, but not black like most seem to be.
Recall a few years ago I bought the first gen 50's tribute LP in goldtop color (except that had a more of a natural blonde back finish). The finish on these 2013 models is more glossy but still less polished than a VOS finish on the historics, and they didn't use grain filler either. also, instead of a 4pc back, the 2013 model is 2pc, joined at center of guitar. good job on grain match too. The fretboard appears to be 1 piece, and has nice figure and consistent dark coloration. much nicer than the one I had on the other goldtop.
The p90's in this thing rock. less refined than a humbucker but more balls than a single coil. perfectly gritty and fills a gap in my collection nicely. Here's a social distortion inspired recording to give you an idea of its sound on a crunchy overdrive setting: P90 Demo
Here's some pics. Enjoy!
