Members Dr. Scottie C
I know that the nut on my USA Fender's vs the spec sheet on my MIM's are suppose to be the same. But there is no way.I have a 2004, and a 2009 MIM strat whose necks are way narrower than my MIA strats.I am 5'11, 185-ish... with small/medium hands....and I have a 1995 Fender USA Standard whose factory neck is so chunky, both in width & girth, I can barely get my hand around it.The necks on my MIM's are fairly chunky too.... but nowhere near the overall width of any of my MIA'sBecause of this, and given that my hands are on the small side..... I literally think I play better on my MIM's.I don't give a rats ball sack what the spec sheet says on these..... the only thing my MIA's and MIM's have in common is 9.5 radius, that I can feel, and measure.... but my MIA necks are wider by a noticible margin...enough to where the string spacing on the fretboard feels different. Is it? I've always been of the impression that USA Fenders are wider at the nut than the imports. I'm looking at Fender's page right now... the Standard is listed at 42mm, the American Standard at 42.8.

Members lz4005
Get some callipers and show us pics of how much difference there is in string spacing.Because by my math the difference in string spacing between 42 and 42.8mm necks should be only 0.16mm from one string to the next. Members billybilly
Yep, the standard series are different, both in nut and bridge. Even though it's not much, it can feel profound. My favorite tool in my box are my calipers, not because I need them but because they are fun. If you don't have any, I recommend buying a set, mine cost $20 and digitally dead accurate. It's amazing the people who start myriad threads about neck size, nut width and all kinds of stuff assuming sizes, shapes and levels of thinness fatness etc and never bother to buy a $20 caliper and actually find out the facts
