  • Reverb.Com Names Best Forums- No Mention Of Harmony Central

For anyone who doesnt realize how far this forum has fallen, just read

    the article in Reverb.com. http://reverb.com/blog/reverb-picks-the-best-forums

It names the best forums, and there is no mention of HC at all.

At one point HC was the top music forum on the internet.  Now it ranks even below

the Agile Forum, per Reverb.com,  It is a shame this has happened.

I still dont really understand what has happened here. They changed to a super clumsy format & it seems like they lost 90% of the members. But why did they do it? Strange to see what had to be a money-maker just totally wiped out..

Never have been able to figure out why they would do such a thing.

Just in the additional traffic it would drive to Musicians Friend , you would think they

would want the forum as large and viable as possible.

Guitar Center is trying to market online with a user-generated-content-as-advertising strategy. But Guitar Center

It's more complicated than that, what you have described above was more like the last straw.

Those who have been around for 5 years or more have witnessed many issues, a failed change to another format before this one (yellow/green color), loss of most of the user reviews (which got most people here in the first place), multiple site problems (slow loading, no loading, outages, you name it).  It was always happening too, particularly in the last 3 years.

Oddly enough, this current format is the most stable to date, it just took too long to implement so people vanished.

I wish we could access the old reviews, they were great, lots of esoteric gear that you can't find anything on these days.

Who knows, people may come back, I still like it here anyway.

It is a shame. And I don't get it either.

They didnt realise that their product was not the platform, it was the people. Treat them like. **** and they go. The arrogance during the last change was the last straw for most. That guy Dweeb or whatever he is called was breathtakingly arrogant.

This can barely be considered a forum. It's more of a chat room circa '01. It just doesn't have a lot of the basic functionality that most forum softwares have - full mobile access or associated app, multiquote, polls, etc.

That, on top of the alienation of most of the knowledgable, content providing user base has more or less dried this place up.

Whoever said they just keeping [mess]ing up and [mess]ing up, had it right.  I've seen this over and over and over ....

... what it boils down to is poor leadership.  At some level within GC's marketing unit, someone was given a set of goals and a budget, and told to make it happen.  That person failed.

Given the historical brick-and-mortar orientation of GC, and my perception (based on multiple anecdotal accounts) of their underpaying people, I'm sure that they executed poorly, and the person who failed didn't have the skills to realize that's what was happening.

          **********

          For those who care, dept.

Looking at GC's financials, they have a weird situation: they are absolutely saddled with debt, but on a run-rate basis, do generate positive cashflow.  That leads me to think that ...

          a) at some point some fancy financiers very cynically borrowed against that cashflow in order to pay themselves handsomely; and

          b) GC could give a **** about a failed internet forum at this point.  Incremental income is always nice, but not central to their strategy going forward.  In other words, don't expect things to improve, because it truly doesn't matter to them.

      Working...
