  • Rob Chapman hate thread

Man, I HATE this guy. He is SO annoying. First of all, not that it's important, but since he's a douche I'll mention it. The guy looks gross, what with that bandanna always at the peak of his forehead and that greasy looking hair slicked back underneath (not to mention the lack of any discernible jawline).

My real problem with him? He's always begging for free help from the youtubers. "Hey guys, would love if you could donate to X, or Y, or Z", "Hey guys go vote for my band Dorje on X Y Z Poll!", "Hey guys please go buy my EP on Itunes, help me get to 1000 EP's sold tonight!!". But after all of the support, he is super stingy paying it forward. He offered up skype lessons on facebook recently. Yes, lessons over skype (can you imagine how ****************ty that would be compared to actual lessons?) the price for his fans, who offered him all of his success? $100/hour!!

Lastly, the most annoying thing of all, he keeps coming out with those garbage guitars that he markets as some sort of high quality, high value, differentiated product. In reality, it's the same **************** sold for under 400 dollars under a number of second tier brand names everywhere -- Les Paul type guitars with no carve on the top, only a paper thin veneer ("cap" they call it) for a top in the standard finishes you'll see on other $400 items. Hilariously enough, I saw a video where he was describing these guitars and said "they are being made in, arguably, the BEST guitar factory in the world right now, . . . in Korea." But besides all of his greed with his personal product and service offerings, there is one other thing. The anderton's product demos.

Have you ever seen him demo a product where he didn't suggest that the item sounded amazing, was an amazing price, an amazing value? Every single thing they demo is just the best, it's all the best. After watching maybe a hundred demos, I finally just accepted that the guy simply has a financial interest in the products because of his ties to his friend's retail chain in the United Kingdom -- he CAN'T provide honest feedback about the relative flaws of a product as compared to the items it competes with. At least other people who do Youtube demos are honest enough not to provide feedback when something is just average (like the ProGuitarShop guys).

Also, he doesn't know how to adjust/set tone on any pedals and his knowledge of anything that isn't fender or his own brand is severely limited. I've seen so many Anderton's videos where both guys are sitting there like retards speaking misinformation about various products, one nodding while the other looks around the shop to see if anyone nearby is wise to the fact that their statements are pulled out of their ass.

See this video if you want to see him manage to make one of the top delay pedals on the market sound like **************** (WHAT THE FK is he trying to do with those settings?? just LOL @ his idea of what "slapback" sounds like):

+1. But that was a truly awesome, epic rant. Reading it was my guilty pleasure for the night. Thanks.

I like him too. I find his reviews informative AND entertaining.

I actually heard him and the other guy (forget his name right now) talking about a line of Marshall amps they did not like. That was refreshing for a store review

can you provide one example of an informative video where they present information at or near the quality you would find on this forum? Ie: something more than saying, "these guitars have rosewood fretboards".

but I'm not going to argue their merits with you. I'd suggest you just not watch his vids if you don't get anything out of them.

Ok, i'll admit, those ones were fine. Their videos are almost never like that anymore though.

I liked how you dedicated the first paragraph to his appearance, usually only girls are regarded in this subject.

I can see where you're coming from. Now Chappers or Phil-X for that matter understood before others how to connect with people on youtube by having a serious laugh even though they are outstanding and dedicated players. If there is a youtube gear teenage hall of fame, they have a right to be inducted. Now will their music be remembered or listened to at all ? Will they still be reviewing gear when they're 64 ? Mmmh, I think they will put up festivals, create music schools, get their faces on TV for some humanitarian rock'n roll concept, and if you ask me there's nothing wrong with it. Now is this all a kind of business plan? It is for sure, but a pretty groovy one. Groovier than most of our daily jobs anyway. As for the looks, Chappers might never escape the 90s. Video killed the radio stars, but they're back on youtube!

i really dig him, not so much his playing, i actually prefer the Captains playing these days. But i watch them because i like a good laugh and they don't take anything too seriously. There are way too many serious people in the world, **************** those people, and Chappers makes the guitar fun again for me. His forum is a very cool place to hang out too and he is a regular there. There are next to no fights or bickering or people slagging off someone on the other side of the world because his jawline doesn't look right and his hair isn't cool. Plus he actually talks and listens to people on Facebook, i think he's an all round good bloke. I wish there were more people on youtube like him.

And his new guitars are made by World Music Company, the same people who make the PRS SE's. But given you already know how **************** they are despite them not being released yet, then i guess i'll have to take your word for it.
