Personally, I lost about 15k. Some of mine were actually helpful, too.

Were actual posts deleted or was it just the count that got mucked up?

I'd think that for legal and liability reasons, HF might want to archive everything...

How about more FAQ threads stickied to make things easier to find as well as keep down the number of redundant threads.

Maybe a FAQ link as the top stickie, with dedicated threads on the most common redundant themes

Some common thread themes that could be rolled into stickie threads-

          Intonation questions

          Strat pick up recommendations

          Agile vs Gibson

What strings for my _______ ?

What kind of slide should I buy / slide technique questions.

Hi, I just started playing and...........

The search function gives a mixed bag of results. I have tried finding earlier threads (that I KNOW existed) on a number of subjects, and come up with nothing. The recent post purging made that worse, I think.

The ability to search the archives back to Genesis would be outstanding. So much old gold seems to be out of reach...

I have posted acoustic/electric threads here. There are a broad group of players here and it's a great way to get good feedback. There seems to be more posting velocity here too.

If I was posting a thread as an example about pogo sticks, I could see your point. However, questions about Acoustics, esp. Acoustic Electrics, I think should be OK here.

I have just learned (from the space aliens that broadcast into my brain through the fillings in my teeth) that if we don't obey the HC rules to the letter and without question and with a big smile, most of our post counts will be annihilated!

                Oh, oh...too late.

If I miss a day of cruising the Electric Guitar Forum I go into withdrawl. I like the "Wild West" feel of the place, and you can't find a better cast of characters. I went to the Gear Page today and saw a thread where we were bashed and somewhat defended. Makes me appreciate this forum and it's unique qualities more. Eristic keep up the good work.

Every now and then some guys on here seem to unload a lot of their personal shortcomings onto fellow forumites, which I find sad and partially kills the joy of this forum. These times I don't know If I should just let it lie or if I should give these guys some perspective of their actions and the consequences thereof.

These cases are sort of in the gray: they do not really break forum rules, although they throw stuff at you that you never asked for and are just so off the point.

The latest example is a thread in which the Gibson low end SG model was compared to a Korean made PRS, both with Soapbar type pickups. One guy on that thread said the PRS worked for him, then he was called "PRS elitistic" by somebody suggesting the Gibson was all and the PRS was nothing. This, as you can tell, was a purely subjective view of this forumite, but he didn't settle at that and made it out an objective one.

He who claim to know the truth for each and every one out there can't possibly provide subjective information that could bring a thread forward. We all have our own ideas about sounds and feels and no idea could be said to be a wrong idea. Should 99 people say they prefer red over green and one person prefer green over red, that shouldn't mean that one person is wrong on any acount.

All forumites should ask them selves before replying: Can I stand for what I'm saying in this reply? Am I providing information for my own pleasure or am I trying to dictate others that don't share my taste in guitars? Have I gone at length to make my reply as neutral and as informative as possible to bring the discussion forward?

Depends on what you mean by "Wild West", doesn't it. On this forum the freedom of speach prevails, not the freedom of mud-slinging. We do have the right to disagree but we're expected to act our age while excercising that right.

Try putting your-self in the shoes of he or she being bashed and maybe you won't see this forum in a not as forgiving light. I apreciate the work of Eristic and the other staff employed to watch over this forum but maybe some lines should be drawn sooner than today. Threads and single replies meant to diverge off topic or are personally offensive should be looked closer into. A forum should be on topic (or somewhere near, anyway) and each thread should be informative and help he who started the thread and others with similar white spots on their maps.

Mud-slinging no, light hearted replies that make me chuckle, outrageous pictures that entertain (Non porno of course), and just the atmosphere of "what's going to happen next". That is what I am talking about. Go to some of the other stuffy forums and be bored out of your mind by the end of page 1......That is what I meant.

For me, I sometimes find it hard where to draw the line - where does 'silly' turn to 'nuisance', where does 'annoyment' turn to 'pest'. Thanx for what you do out there The Eristic - keep up the good work.

Maybe it's time for the All-New, 2006 Eristic Appreciation Thread!
