I'm here, just don't offer that much input on these boards anymore because it largely gets ignored anyway. Took the summer off form my shop and slowly starting to get back into again. Only doing stuff for friends and myself at this point. My shop is permanently closed to new clients. Life keeps me too busy

I'm sort of in a similar situation.

The local guys, that I know, have just been overwhelming me the past few months with basic maintenance/set-up work.

It's hurt my progress on this guitar, plus I've got 3 new archtops started that I haven't touched in a year & a half.

So the truss rod tweaks, etc, I've started referring to the set-up guy at the local mom & pop.

I still want to do projects like the blacktop here, & the 12 string gibson that I just finished, because of the challenge.

But mostly, I want to get back on my own stuff.

          • My house is small, maby 1200 square feet total.

The shop room is maby 250 sq ft., & this room only slightly larger.

In the using of my floor space most efficiently, I've incorporated wall space as well, to maximize the volumn that I can put in a given room, and still function.

It isn't real pretty...I free handed the drilling for the dowels...but it works.

Room for some gear boxes at the bottom...

...and room in the corner for the milk crate type storage bins.

            Form follows function!!

This is also my practice room so this rack is for my players.

Your case is in a big bag with dessicant packs in the shop room overhead.

                  • the house we sold and moved out of earlier this year was about the same size as your house now, and it was always a fun challenge creating enough space to hold band practices, maintain a small work shop, find storage space for my collection of instruments and amps, and have livable space for a brand new baby. somehow we made it work, but looking back i have no idea how.

Ya, I'd kill for a full, dry, walk-out basement under this house...

me too, actually. the upside to the new place is a ton more square footage, and usable too. i have a portion of the basement finished and dedicated to my recording studio/rehearsal space, another area of the basement where a dedicated workshop is, and a third secluded area where i keep the guitars. all nice and dry. still, it would be nice to have a walk-out for loading in and out.

                          • Got my very first build on the go at the moment (too embarrassed to share it with everyone yet) and waiting for parts to get across the pond to the UK.

I thought I'd bump this thread as a lesson to myself in Zen-like calm.

OMMMMMM...I can wait two weeks for parts...OMMMMMMMM

Don't know how you guys do it! GRRRRRRRRRR!!!
