It's the same type material as was on the guitar originally.

I found out about it from Benedetto, who also uses it on some of his work.

I did a glue test over the weekend on some scraps of material, between super glue, epoxy & titebond to see which worked the best.

Super glue didn't seem to get a very good bite, but epoxy & titebond both worked well.

So I chose the titebond since it cleans up with a wet rag.

Used Q-tips to clean out the drippage coming down the tuner holes.

Clamping pressures were very moderate, as I have already top coated the screen printed logo with clear nitro for protection & wanted to avoid any damage to that area.

Quick shot of the back of the body.

Ready to trim flush with the headstock sides & get the pearl in place.

The attention to detail and work you've done with this guitar amazes me, Meandi. I can't wait to see the final product, how much work actually remains before finishing starts?

Thank you, I appreciate the compliment.

I'm dealing now with final detail work on things like bindings, mahogany cavity covers that I built for the back of the guitar, final sanding in the finer grits etc.

                  • I've got a couple of scraps of overlay glued to some scrap pine...

...for a trial run on the edging process.

The attachment is adjustable for use in cutting binding channels or for flush cut.

I want it set so that it's just scratching the old nitro on the sides of the headstock, allowing for final stripping & overlay fit by hand.

I meant to glue this up last evening, but let it slip my mind, so another hour or so before I can un-clamp it.

GreatDane had indicated earlier that he wants an amber tint laid over all of the non-black areas, so yes, a tint coat will be necessary if these items are to color match the bindings.

                      How ya doin?

i live on, just about ready to do a build thread actually..

good to see this moving again, that acoustic repair held me over though..

hope all is well with you.

when do we get to see the spray booth? that guy done?

                              • It is possible to rock the dremel & get the cutter bit into the wood, so I worked it from the bottom side so I could see the cutter in action for accuracy.

One of my concerns, with all the cutting & sanding going on to flush the overlay with the headstock side, was the posibility of tearing chips out of the nitro that I sprayed to bury the screen printed logo.

                                That has not happened, thankfully.

This indicates that the adhesion of the nitro to the overlay material is very good.

                                Big sigh of relief.

It appears that, due to the very tight grain structure of the maple, that the red was applied without grain fillers.

There is still a bit of stain in the wood that will have to be removed.

I'll accomplish this with the finer grit papers used for the final paint prep.
