Members bigcatrik
I was just telling someone who picked up his bass last week for the first time in many years the same thing. He said his mind could think faster than his hands.

I say, push it until it gets sloppy, back off the tempo...get it clean...then push it again. In that regard, it's much like athletics. Lotsa reasons why this is better. One is you tend to play differently when trying to play fast, when you are not used to it. There is an amazingly fast player who said it better(and can back it up).....uh....shucks. I will get back to ya. BTW, he died young, and is considered one of the fastest players ever....Damn! Help!

Great forum! ya weeee You gotta watch where you put the cursor when on the Rich Text tab. If it lands in the quote frame, it stays put. You can prolly fix it on the HTML tab. I just cancel and start over. benzem wrote: Not the most effective method IMO. I say, push it until it gets sloppy, back off the tempo...get it clean...then push it again. Members phil-the-thrill
Sounds like a new method that I'm willing to try. I'm starting at 1 bpm (quarter notes). I'm hoping that by this time next year, I can play at a blazingly fast 13 or 14 notes per minute. I think I'm going to need roadies for my world-wide tour. Members benzem
This is the genius I was trying to come up with. Sweet guy. Great insight here. Also, to expand on my prev post, I think this approach is most helpful (or maybe ONLY helpful) when you take small chunks and apply the idea. I believe taking a longer phrase and trying to blast thru it might be only somewhat beneficial, if at all.For me this can mean as little as a 4 note phrase, usually that contains the parts where you most stumble. Watch this! What a talented, intelligent player he was. Very sad so short for this world.
