Much better then those wicked laser beam LED's which burn a hole through the back of your eyeball.

Even if you did, or wanted to retrofit a bunch of pedals, the big question IMO is - are the switches themselves any good? Not all footswitches are IMO.

To be honest it looks to be the same switch you typically get in most pedals today with the LED retrofitted. I've worked with many similar switches and the key to having them work well is all in the initial soldering. If you heat sink each terminal when soldering with hemostats or an alligator clip you prevent the electrical contacts which go all the way inside to the rocker from melting or loosening up and moving causing contact issues.

If you don't heat sink, you can expect to have intermittent contacts if not outright failure. This isn't unique to the low cost switches either. Even your better brands are all plastic now and they will melt just trying to get the contacts hot enough for solder to flow. The days of Bakelite switches or even nastier materials that can take heat from soldering are long gone unless you have some vintage parts around.

I do think anyone capable of replacing the switch properly wouldn't be too concerned about not having them last as long as they should. I think the lighted switch could in fact prolong the lifespan of the switch by making it clearly visible. How many time have you played on a dark stage blinded by those dam LED's blinding you and you and missed hitting a switch firmly?

Maybe another good mod would be a beam reflector that either beam that LED at the knobs, or the switch, Or both. Having it to tell me whether the pedal is on of off its pretty useless on my part. I always know if a pedals is in use or bypassed simply by what I'm hearing. Putting that LED to use navigating the pedal from a distance makes far more sense. Maybe have clear knobs like the speed knobs lit from below so you can clearly see where your settings are set. Then instead of the light turning off it switches to those LED's I posted and only the knob lights turn off.

That would probably be the coolest you could get and it wouldn't take that much. You'd need the knobs of course, then you'd have to drill a hole for the LED under the knobs. you could even use the same switch simply have the voltage toggle from one side to the other. wiring the switch LED to constantly on is optional.

WRGKMC, have you ever seen the pedals with the lights around the bases / plexiglass light plates? You can retrofit those lit bases on to just about any pedal you want, and IMO they look even cooler than the lit-up switches do.

It does look pretty cool as shown, except on a cluttered pedal board, the base light would be pretty much just a glow down there and not something anyone else would see off stage.

I do like the colored led rim on the switches, and I see on Amazon where [for a higher cost] you can order them in packs of two. Am I going to retrofit all my stuff? No, but Iwill show them to potential repair clients...it could be a nice upsell.

Haven't seen those before and they definitely have a cool factor.

Since the light is below the plugs I'm not sure if I'd want all my connecting wires glowing in the dark, even if the pedal board is tidy.

I suppose you could use that kind of thing for the entire pedal board base if you wanted and skip having to modify individual pedals.

Still like the idea of glowing knobs. Speed knobs, with the numbers on them would show their settings clearly at standing level so you know exactly where you have them set.
