Members travisbrowning Posted March 28, 2015 Author Members Share Posted March 28, 2015 Yes I think you would!Strangely enough I went to a local music store today and played a few guitars, a Fender Starcaster reissue, a Squier Mustang and a Casino Coupe. Gotta say that new Fender Starcaster is amazing! Felt really nice and sounded amazing! The VM Mustang had a pretty thick neck, and while it sounded good, it felt strange for a short scale guitar to have such a thick neck. The Casino Coupe sounded nice, but I found the body just a hair too small, and the neck was a little strange to me. It felt nice in the cowboy chord area, but about the fifth or sixth fret it felt like got a little too chunky too quick, a little awkward to play. The store also had a Pelham Blue Epiphone SG with maestro trem that looked really good, but I didn't get a chance to play it. You would probably like the EJ160e, mine has a really nice neck and it's consistent in its taper as it goes down. There are about 3 or 4 versions of it, and it is discontinued now. Mine is Indonesian made, I wanna say it's a 2005 or 6, but it's the most correct in terms of body shape and knob placement. However it's also the one with the worst pickup, I took mine out and fitted a lipstick pickup in it. It's a really great guitar, and not as much as a one trick pony as some people say. If you put electric guitar strings (like John and George did), it sounds like the just like the acoustic in Nowhere Man. But you can also put on some bronze acoustic strings and it sounds quite a bit better acoustically (all the Gibson and Epiphone 160e reissues have solid tops unlike the original that had a laminate top) at the expense of your electrical tone, as the magnetic pickup won't pick up the bronze strings very well. I find the best balance between a great acoustic tone and a great amplified tone are GHS White Bronze strings. I just changed the strings on mine today and put on some nickelwound Jazz guitar strings, 12s, and it sounds a lot thinner than the white bronze ones. Members MesaMonster Posted March 30, 2015 Members Share Posted March 30, 2015 I went to my local guitar store this weekend and tried a Fender Tim Armstrong acoustic. Wow. I was really surprised at how well this guitar played and the quality for the price (349.00). Beautiful guitar with a mahogany all around. It also has a Fishman pickup and onboard tuner.
