Anybody have their effects at fingertip level? Why isn't this done?

I do in my studio with my rack effects units. You can run them via pedal or by hand. Problem is when you play guitar you cant be tweaking effects and playing at the same time, thus the reason for using pedals.

I that regard pedals are just in and out switches. I think there's room to develop play while you tweak styles. The all in one boxes especially could stand new interfaces to address this.

In the studio, I can take all the time I need to get a specific tone. Playing live, Stages are too dark to be jacking with settings, plus it makes you look like an amateur who hasn't got his stuff wrapped tight. You're lucky if you can see the switches when you have blinding spot lights shining down on you. Tweaking knobs in that environment isn't something you should be focused on in any case, The focus should be on entertaining people and playing the instrument, and when you stop, people need that silence between songs to collect themselves.

There's stuff you can do like strum and turn a depth knob or tap and turn a gain knob. This could be further facilitated with an appropriate interface. Adjustments of these types would be immediately audible and well into cool stuff if not legitimate expression. Even sliders would be an improvement in that regard.
