Members mbengs1
I currently use a digitech multi effects and it sounds mediocre. What do i need to get great tone plugging direct without using amps/cabs/mics? I want to use my guitars and effects only. I was thinking a speaker emulator or direct box of some sort would do the trick.

Members Preacher
I use a Tech21 Blonde character pedal and it's fantastic. To be honest I haven't heard anything bad about their other character pedals either.
Members goodhonk
I agree with the preacher. Although, i use the joyo version.
Phil O'Keefe
I'm also a fan of the Tech 21 Character Series (Blonde, Liverpool and VT Bass) pedals - they sound very good (quite convincingly like a miked up amp) when going direct. The Two Notes Torpedo CAB is also a great product for giving you amp-like sounds when running direct, with quite a bit more control over the virtual microphones and other parameters, but it's also significantly more expensive. Members onelife
I don't know about the Digitech specifically but I use a Boss ME-25. The ME-25 has a speaker emulated headphone output and I can get a decent stereo direct sound by plugging it into the line inputs on a Yamaha mixer. I never thought of using the headphone output until I got a Fender Mustang amplifier and it was suggested in the user guide.
Members Jasaoke
Hughes and Kettner has the Redbox. It's a cab simulator/DI. The newest incarnation seems pretty slick, though I haven't heard it.
