Deadhead, deadhead, take another toke

Deadhead, deadhead, you're a lousy joke

Friend of the devil, who you trying to kid

Friends of the devil are dead like Sid

I'll be grateful when you're dead

I'll be grateful when you're dead

I'll be grateful when you're dead

So don't stick around too long

Riding that train high on cocaine

The music is really lousy, the fans are a pain

Troubles behind, troubles ahead

The only good deadhead is one that's dead

Look for a while at the China Cat Sunflower

proud-walking jingle in the midnight sun

Copper-dome bodhi drip a silver kimono

like a crazy-quilt star gown

through a dream night wind

Krazy Kat peeking through a lace bandana

like a one-eyed Cheshire

like a diamond-eyed jack

A leaf of all colors plays

a golden string fiddle

to a double-e waterfall over my back

Comic book colors on a violin river

crying Leonardo words

from out a silk trombone

I rang a silent bell

beneath a shower of pearls

in the eagle winged palace

of the queen Chinee

Most of the time, when I'm ranting about my hatred of the dead, I don't even bring up thier lyrics.

Guess I don't have to tonight, either.

Obviously Garcia's playing is a matter of taste. But out of tune? I've listened to probably hundreds of live Dead performances and I can't think of a single show that featured out of tune anything.

In fact, I think Garcia was one of the most emotive, soulful guitarists. His leads, at their peak, were beyond melodic.

I'm not trying to convert anyone since I know that won't work. I'm just saying that most preconceived notions of his playing are not correct. You could go to archive.org to listen to some free music. I recommend a 1972 show.

Yes they did. The Dead and Alembic came up with the idea of LOTS of wattage and LOTS of speakers for the clearest sound and massive amounts of headroom. It only lasted a short time since it took so long to set up and break down. Those roadies definitely earned their pay that tour! I've heard from a couple people who saw them with the wall of sound in the mid '70s and they said it sounded stellar.

I have had a many conversations with heads, musicians, even members of the dead (phil daddy and micky) about the REAL wall as most heads call it. It was at a point where they had 2 walls of sound and they would have a team go and set up one wall the night before a show while they played that night on the other and vice versa. up to 16 hours to assemble with as many as 20+ guys at some venues.

The thing was just {censored}ing masive.. doing acid will lead to things like this.

:D

Thats pretty funny, but way off base. Jerry knew what he was doing.

+1

He's technically a perfectly capable guitarist. Better than capable, actually. It's just a shame about what he wanted to play.

I also have always hated his sound. It's some kind of adenoidal whine that stands my hair on end and makes me want to brush his teeth.

you ranting about how you hate the dead?

Funny, I would think a pseudo-jazz player like yourself would have more admiration for a group of musicians who can actually play jazz to packed stadiums of fans. Miles could never pull that off.
