I'm on vacation!!! My partner's brother teaches in Budapest so we're spending two weeks here. While in the area we're going to hit up Prague and Vienna. Due to the fact that {censored} is crazy expensive in Turkey, I'm going to load up on some new toys. That said, does anybody know of any rockin' music shops in the cities?

Cheers,

You might find Budapest a bit disappointing for music stores - my best buys of the year were all back in the UK - but I do like this place, Vintage 52, where I tend to sell my pedals, cool guys in there:

Street level is the workshop, go down the stairs and past the display cabinet of vintage pedals :thu: Look out for their selection of Kasleder pedals if you want something local - he's the only local boutique builder I know of.

Just in my neighbourhood, in the centre of town near Blaha square, is Coda, which is quite good:

The biggest is Eldorado; it's bang in the centre near Oktogon. A bit sterile but some okay stuff there:

Enjoy Budapest - it's a class city!

have you had a chance to look at stuff in Istanbul? They have sometimes things they don't know the value of...

Vienna was quite disappointing when I went there, maybe you'll be luckier than I was.

Prague had some random small shop near the Roxy, a venue where I was.

Locate that venue and then locate the guitar shop literally up the street!

I've looked through all the new shops in Istanbul and everything is marked up 100% of US prices. I'm going to spend some time digging through the used shops this spring.

I found one in Prague- they had a pretty good selection, but the prices were waaay high, and I'm used to UK prices, which are usually pretty steep compared to the US. It wasn't far from Wenceslas Square, but I forget the exact address... UK is probably the best place to go in europe for buying music stuff.

Agreed, I sold lot of guitars there too. Unfortunately the coolest gear and historical bits are not for sale. :-(

If you're more into acoustic stuff, I would go here too:
