Members Lane16
I plan on getting a sib echodrive for a slapback effect to warm and fatten up my tone. I read the blues get muddy when delaying, but mine would barely being doing much delaying. Which colour of the echodrive would benefit me more then blue or red? Guest Guest
Just for reference, you ARE prepared to spend upwards of $700, right? http://completed.shop.ebay.com/i.html?MA2ShowItems&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283&_rdc=1&rt=nc&_fln=1&_nkw=echodrive&LH_Complete=1&guest=1 (That link will require you to sign in, but it should still work.) Members Lane16
yeah the blues are like 700 right? Reds are like 300?
Members BR4D
With all of the decent delays on the market now why would want something used that you're unsure of? No judgement. Just curious.

Guest Guest
hahahah I was attempting to make sure you knew what you were getting into in terms of price-point, and Brad was attempting to make sure you knew there were plenty of other easily obtainable/well-reviewed alternatives to a very specific and pricey unit. No, I do not know which color Echodrive will "warm and fatten up your tone" best; waiting more than an hour for someone who's tried both the red and blue Echodrives to find your post, read it, then respond - probably a good idea. Just sayin'.
Members El Gallo Negro
If you haven't already checked there, try thegearpage.net Those dudes are much more likely to have actually given the Echodrives a spin. SIB is amazing stuff, though. I'm sure they both rule.

Members erksin
I played through a blue one last night - it will do what you're wanting. I didn't find it muddy at all.
Members Lane16
But which will be better for what i want? The red or the blue?

Members Lane16
Btw does the catalinbeard sft mimic old ampegs well? erksin
Members erksin
Haven't tried the red so I can't say. The blue is a great pedal though - I don't think it s $700 worth of great, but it sounds VERY good. Obviously I'm biased, but yeah - I think the SFT nails the Ampeg tone and playing response. Members aussy
I personally wouldn't get an echodrive just to use for slapbackThe blue is too expensive, and to use the red for just slapback would be a wasteErksin would recommend the Analogman AR20DL for slapback (which I would second, using one for that purpose right now)I would also suggest just about any 80s BBD delay

The slappers I've liked the most have been the AR20DL, the Arion SAD-1, and the Malekko E300B. I've not tried the Maxon AD-80 which is supposedly the dog's balls for slapback stuff, but I have a hard time believing that it's sounds that much better than the AR20DL. To me, it is the perfect slapback delay. IMO, what you are paying for with the blue Echodrive is that tube gain stage which is significant. It does sound amazingly good. So I don't think you can look at that pedal as just a simple delay because it's doing more than just that one task. It's akin to an Echoplex in what it does to your sound - a BBD pedal won't give you that.
Members EL KABONG
with what you are wanting it to do, I would probably want to try either pedal in person rather than pointing and clicking.

Members erksin
I know the AR20DL is discontinued, where does one acquire one? Forums or eBay. I'd buy a second if I came across another one at the right price.
Members pbone
Word. Hopefully they're not inflated just because they're discontinued. You tried the DM-3 for slappies?
Members El Gallo Negro
For slapback only, I think the Aqua Puss reissue sounds absolutely beautiful. I just don't wanna spend much scrill on something that has such limited use.

I tried a DM-3 a long time ago and liked it a lot. The AR20DL supposedly falls right inbetween a DM-2 and a DM-3 in terms of EQing, so it's warm but still clear and punchy.
